Strengthening the Network at UVA’s Immunology Research Day
Members of the lab attended and participated in the annual Immunology Research Day, a symposium highlighting immunology research at UVA. Trainees help organize this event and constituted the majority of (antigen) presenters during this fantastic day-long event.
⭐️ Graduate student Ben Wendell was a part of the organizing committee this year.
⭐️ Ana Royo Macro presented her thesis research entitled “Meningeal lymphatic function restoration with AAV-VEGFC post-mild TBI protects against the adverse effects of head trauma on tauopathy progression“ in a full length talk.
⭐️ Jess Thanos presented her thesis research as a thesis slam blitz-style talk, “Exploring the role of STING as a potential driver of Alzheimer’s-related disease“.
⭐️ Ava Hollis presented her undergraduate research as a poster titled “The effects of inflammasome activation on seizure propogation“.
This year’s symposium theme was “Strengthening the Network”, an effort to bring together members of separate immunology research groups at the university. Attendees and presenters hailed from the Brain Immunology and Glia center (BIG), the Beirne B. Carter center for Immunology Research (CIC), and the Center for Immunity, Inflammation and Regenerative Medicine (CIIR).
