Ben grew up in Mason, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.S. in Neuroscience. During his time at Kentucky, Ben played Division I soccer and performed undergraduate research under the guidance of Josh Morganti where he studied astrocyte transcriptional responses to traumatic brain injury. Since, arriving at the University of Virginia and the Lukens lab, Ben has become interested in the mechanisms of ferroptosis within the contexts of traumatic brain injury. Outside of the lab, Ben enjoys watching and playing soccer, cooking, lifting and attending local trivia nights.
